Avatar Casting Scandal

Sat Jan 24, 2009, 12:20 PM
This blog entry sums up my feelings exactly. Thank you, Derek Kirk Kim for spelling out the situation so eloquently.

In a related note, apparently they have open casting for extras. People of all ethnicities are encouraged to apply:

Notable quote:

Deedee Rickets, the casting director for the film, said "We want you to dress in traditional cultural ethnic attire," she said. "If you're Korean, wear a kimono. If you're from Belgium, wear lederhosen."

Umm... I thought kimonos were Japanese and lederhosen German.

:lmao: Oh man. I know it isn't funny, but you have to wonder about the ignorance.

Isn't soulless American capitalism just the best?

When I was little, I wanted to a professional writer, cartoonist, film-maker, world champion boxer, Power Ranger, Highlander, and game designer.
I have since scaled back my expectations; I understand and accept that one must be born a Highlander.

I was listening to a recording of a radio interview Jesse McCartney gave about The Last Airbender. You can check it out here: [link]

In it, he said Avatar was an anime made in Asia that became really popular there, and so they decided to bring it to America. Apparently it was made for M. Night Shyamalan, too.

He didn't know the full names of any of the rest of the main cast, such as Jackson Rathbone or Nicola Peltz.

He mentioned he especially loved the kung fu practice he'd been put into for three hours a day, because it gave him sexy abs.

:faint: Shoot me now?

This movie is going to be as bad as the Dragon Ball movie
My condolences, it was a good show and you guys from the crew don't deserve to have your hard work screwed up that badly :/

For me Aang as more withe feature (big eye, the nose, the color of his skin), for the rest I'm pretty unhappy, zuko must be asian not by white a guy same thing for katara and sokka, If everyone is white it would make me pretty sad it would not be the same I would probably stick to the cartoon... Who is fantastic! They should do an animation movie not with real actor I feel that way...
